Seattle Summer 2010
Greetings,
Have you ever asked yourself “Did I do everything this year to the best of my ability, to grow the Kingdom of God ?” Well, I can honestly say I feel like I have grown so much closer to Christ. He has tested and strengthened me in so many areas of my faith. I can’t even begin to tell you the countless times He has helped me trust in, and rely on His Holy Name.
I was given the opportunity to serve on the Seattle Summer-In-The-City/Prison student project last summer; it was a whirlwind of growth for me. The project to the inner city of Seattle included helping those in need, sharing the Gospel with inner city children, and inmates in a correctional facility. Last summer I had to trust God with finances that I didn’t have. I learned to be more vulnerable about my past and opening up to others. I shared my faith in the prisons and I was able to see how my story helped heal one lady in particular. Well, you can imagine how excited I was when the project director asked me to come back this summer and serve as a student-staff!
I believe the Lord will use this time to stretch me and draw me closer to Him, and I can’t wait to serve the other students. The Seattle Project will also help me develop leadership and organizational skills and gain a better perspective of Criminal Justice, Social work, and Psychology.
However, in order to make all this possible, I need to ask for your help. I need to build a team that will financially support me in this mission. I am asking you to consider joining my support team by helping me get to Seattle . Would you consider making a donation of $200, 100, 50 or whatever God would direct you to help. The deadline for raising these funds is May 20, 2010; so if you would like to contribute, please send a check to my address, MADE PAYABEL TO CAMPUS CRUSADE FOR CHRIST or to make things a little easier you can even donate online at http://give.ccci.org/give/view/5550724. Please feel free to call me if you have any questions (320) 224.4776
I am also asking for your prayers. Please pray for my safety and that of all the ministry team. Pray that the Lord will use our time in Seattle to change hearts like He did last year. There is a good chance that we will be able to reconnect with some of the inmates that we meet last year, so pray also for our time with them.
In His Name,
Susan Hight

Aah! EVERYONES HERE
Today was just such a GREAT day.
I woke up today at 6am to get ready for the long, fun, adventurous day ahead.
Today we left SPU @ 8:13am to head over to the Urban Family Center. UFC is a ministry that get people to come together and hangout and get relationships started. well anyways we were setting up and helping with the bounce floaty things. We were all set up and just hanging out talking with people and then we get our first phone call for a pick up at the airport. YAY!!!!
Uncle Tom, Brooke, and I went back and forth from the airport from about 11am-4pm getting people and sending them to our first project site to help out there. It was so cool seeing the smiles on the other students face as we picked them up from the doors they arrived at.
Every student I handed a name tag to and greeted them with a great smile and had good convos with.
when we got most of our students here we headed back to the apartment complex where the other students were volunteering and fed the students that just arrived. we chatted a little while there and started cleaning up from the block party.
around 5ish I believe we headed out to pick up two more beautiful students on our wonderful "limousine" (prison bus) lol.
Right when the two got on the bus, Tom,Brooke, and I did a little skit for them. It was so much fun. Tom was the conductor. while Brooke and I were the "flight attendants" helping them with whatever they needed. they wanted water we gave it to them. they wanted candy we gave it to them. it was so much fun just being able to enjoy the company of my new soon to be great friends.
when we got back to campus everyone helped unload the bus and headed to there rooms to get all situated and relaxed. us girls sat in the hallway and had some bonding time (LOVE IT). I just cant wait to be able to get to know these girls on a deeper level and just be able to share the love of Christ with them and them to me. I an just so thrilled to be able to come along so many amazing women of God.
after our little bonding time we went to the food room and had dinner and then had some more fellowship with the guys included. after just sitting there and getting to know one another Uncle Tom started talking about the many things that we will be doing this next month. I AM SO PUMPED!!!
God is going to use us and grow us beyond anything that we can ever imagine. He has known about us going on this trip longer than we have known.
Aah! I cant even explain how wonderful it is to finally meet the rest of our fellow teammates. it is just so wonderful.
I just want to thank you all for all the prayer support, financial support, encouragement, love, acceptance, etc. that I have gotten from everyone.
BUT PLEASE DO NOT STOP!
I still need it. it is only the beginning of the project. we have LOTS more to do.
SO KEEP PRAYING!!
I hope that you all have a very blessed day and week.
much love and prayers

Day 2 in Seattle
today was such a great day. we got so much stuff done.
I woke up 5am Seattle time/7am Minnesota time. I started getting ready for the day, took a nice long shower, and then had some quiet time with God. what a great time it was.
I was reflecting on the bible passage from Psalms. it was Psalms 40:12-13 "For troubles surround me-- too many to count! They pile up so high I can't see my way out. They are more numerous than the hairs on my head. I have lost all my courage. Please, LORD, rescue me! Come quickly, LORD, and help me."
I just love this passage because no matter what He is there. There may be so many trials that one person may be going through but our Father is right there with us helping us through. like He said in the song "By your side" by Chris Tomlin
And I'll be by your side
Wherever you fall
In the dead of night
Whenever you call
And please don't fight
These hands that are holding you
My hands are holding you
God is there through the thick and thin. through the high and low. through every calm and every storm. He will never give you anything that you can not handle.
throughout the rest of my day. we got many things done before the rest of other students arrived. We had to go and get all the training materials printed and set up for there arrival tomorrow. we also had to go shopping for the food and the snacks for the next month. (of course we will go many times to the store to reload).
While at Kinkos printing off the training materials there was supposed to be another student to arrive around 1030am. we were not hearing any phone calls from him so we were getting a little worried at where he was at. we did not know if his flight was delayed or if he did not even get on a plane- nothing -. so we decided that since it was already 1230pm that we would try to call him to see if he will answer and what was going on. there was no answer. so then we were really worried. we tried calling his home and there was no answer there so uncle Tom left voice message.
while in Costco's picking up groceries we get a phone call around 230pm saying that Chris was in. YAY! thank God nothing happened to him. when finished at costco's we headed for the airport to pick up our new friend. we came back to campus and unloaded all the groceries and put them all away, and just relaxed until our next adventure to pick up the only guy student staff here on project Drew. He is such a sweet guy. lol. we scared him when we went to pick him up. pretty hilarious.
we decided it would be pointless to come back to campus when we will be leaving again to pick up another person 2 hours later so we ran more errands of getting more groceries and going to uncle Tom's home and grabbing some essentials we needed. then off again to the airport to pick up Nick. what a sweet guy. he will fit in very well here on project.
I am just so thrilled to meet all these people the past couple days and I can not wait to see everything we will be doing together. and getting to know more about all these guys. we have 28 people all together including staff and I have only met 8 people. there will be another 20 tomorrow :) I cant wait til we pick up the rest of the other students.
God is going to change hearts on this trip and I am so excited.
I know that this is very long.
SORRY!
hope all your summers are going well
much love and prayers

I made it safe!
I cant believe it! I am in SEATTLE, WA.
After a LONG 37+ hour ride on the train I finally made it to Seattle, WA.
I first got on the wrong train :( but it was really amazing. lol
I met a wonderful woman named Floreesh Conner. we had a great conversation. we talked about God and His wonderful works. we talked about what God has been doing in my life and in her life. what an amazing story this woman has.
sitting on the train after Floreesh got off I put on my headphones to my ipod. I was listening to many songs, but one in particular stood out. Majesty (Here I Am) by Delirious. what a great song. I was just listening deeply to the lyrics
Here I am humbled by your Majesty
Covered by your grace so free
Here I am, knowing I'm a sinful man
Covered by the blood of the Lamb
Now I've found the greatest love of all is mine
Since you laid down your life
The greatest sacrifice
Majesty, Majesty
Your grace has found me just as I am
Empty handed, but alive in your hands
Majesty, Majesty
Forever I am changed by your love
In the presence of your Majesty
Here I am humbled by the love that you give
Forgiven so that I can forgive
Here I stand, knowing that I'm your desire
Sanctified by glory and fire
Now I've found the greatest love of all is mine
Since you laid down your life
The greatest sacrifice
wow! I just love this song! He loves us SO much He laid down His life for us. I have known that for a long time but never really truly thought about what all that meant.
Majesty? what does that even mean? I looked in the dictionary and it means
1. impressive stateliness, dignity, or beauty
2. royal power
our Father God is all of this. He has the royal power. he is more beautiful than anything and person. He has the greatest love. He sacrificed himself. He has the power to do so much but He lets us choose the life we live. He dont want us to be robots.
I am going to Stand. Stand firm in what I believe. I am His desire and I want Him to be my desire. full heartedly. no more half heart. I want God to use me in so many ways while I am on this trip here in Seattle. I want to go back to Minnesota with a better and bigger understanding of what God has planned for my life and where He wants me to be.
He is the greatest sacrifice. HE is the Alpha and Omega, the Beginning and the End, He is Christ our Saviour and Redeemer, our LORD.
Getting off the train today I was met by some project friends. Brooke, Megan, Mindy, and Uncle Tom. they are all so great. We went out to buy some dinner and get a few groceries. I know that I am going to make some life long friendships here. they are just so hilarious and awesome. so then we came back to the dorms @ SPU (Seattle Pacific University). I took a NICE LONG COLD shower. and already the day is just about over. so Crazy! lol.
I am just so excited to see what God has planned for our day tomorrow.
another great adventure I can not wait to have :)
I am sorry. I totally just went on a tangent. lol.
my mind is just consuming so many things.
I am so excited for this summer and the impact I am going to have on others and the impact that others are going to definitely have on me. I cant wait.
Minnesota be prepared to see a change in Susan :)

Encouragement, Prayers, Etc.
So, I was looking through some of my old notebooks that I used to write in long ago and I cam across one book that I did not look at in a very long time. my old student leadership journal. At the church I used to go to I was part of Student Leadership that involved 6 other students. I was reading what I have written so long ago and what I thought was the thing I believed God wanted me to get out of student leadership. I look now at what I wrote and that was to bring hope to broken and shattered futures and expand my sphere of influence/experience. It is so crazy how God puts visions in our lives cause that is still where I feel like He wants me to be. I believe that this summer going to Seattle for project that there is where He exactly wants me to begin my journey and grow beyond what I can ever expect. there is where I will learn to be the disciple that God wants me to be.
I just thank God every day that He has given me on this earth. I want to be used in a way that only He can use me. I don't want to be ordinary. I want to be different. I want to make a difference. I want God to take my life and make it His. I want to be the person that everyone sees Jesus in.
I ask you guys to keep me in your prayers as I go to Seattle and do the work that God has in store for me. that I come back with the eyes and heart of our Lord Jesus. I just ask that you guys keep me in your prayers through the trials that are still yet to come. just because we are Gods children does not mean that we will not have trials. He said He will walk through them with us.
I thank you for all of your prayers and encouragement. but please DO NOT STOP praying. that will help more than anything else.
thank you and I love you all
